What can I expect from this?

I will send you short, easy-to-digest emails which will make you a better Elixir developer. This can be stuff I am currently working on, something I learned or simply some tips or news from the community.

Who are you anyway?

I am Ben and I help businesses ship software faster by focusing on simplicity and the proper tools to deliver actual value to the customer. I am based in Wuppertal, Germany (the city with the upside-down metro).

Over the last decade I mainly worked as a frontend engineer with all the latest technology in the JavaScript ecosystem (especially React). I suffered from the shiny object syndrome, JavaScript fatigue and the needlessly increasing complexity of developing React applications. I thought that there had to be a simpler way to do things. I found that simple way in Elixir and Phoenix.

Today I embrace the simplicity of Elixir, Phoenix and Phoenix LiveView and combine it with my frontend knowledge. This allows me to use React when it actually does make sense and not as a universal tool for things which could be a simple server-rendered page.

I am the author of ex_cva, live_motion and the VSCode hex.pm IntelliSense plugin (even though I am a neovim nerd by now).

Now, if that makes sense to you or you just want to broaden your horizon. I'd be happy to have you on board.

I do not spy. Ever.

I deeply believe that spying on an email audience is an hideous practice. It is none of my business if and when you open my emails, click a link or trash it immediately (which I hope you won't do for obvious reasons). I don't care about vanity metrics like "open rate" or "click through percentage". I only care about delivering valuable information to you.

I will never include any creepy tracking pixels or link redirections into my emails.

If you feel like giving me feedback or want to reach out on any of my emails, just hit the reply button and I will answer.
